Great, colourful painted Easter eggs are a must. We've done the groundwork and put together some tips and inspiration so that nothing goes wrong in the Easter bunny painting workshop. The custom: Why are we painting eggs on Easter?
There are different theories, why we paint Easter eggs. It is clear that the egg is an ancient symbol of fertility and life. This symbolism has also made Christianity suited - the sloppiness chick is reminiscent of the resurrection of Jesus. And to highlight the significance, the eggs were colored red in the Middle Ages.
Another assumption goes back to the medieval Lent. Believing Christians abstained from meat and eggs at this time. To prevent the accumulated eggs from spoiling, they were boiled. And why coloured? Quite simply: to distinguish them from fresh eggs. On Easter Sunday, the eggs were eaten with relish and given away as gifts - and this colourful tradition has remained with us to this day.
Easter decoration tinker with children: Which colors are suitable for Easter eggs?
IIf you want to make Easter decorations with children, child-friendly colours are important. We have put together a colourful overview. For all colours except natural and food colours: use blown-out eggs!
Food and natural colors
The classic way to embellish Easter eggs is to colour them with food and natural dyes. Suitable natural materials include beetroot, elderberry, spinach and turmeric. Boil each ingredient with half a litre of water to make a broth, add a little vinegar after filtering and add the eggs. The Easter eggs get a natural base coat that you can decorate after drying.
Finger and water colors
You want to make Easter decorations with children who are still quite small? Finger paints are ideal for this. They have a high opacity and are easy to wipe off objects that have been accidentally painted.
Watercolours are also suitable for painting Easter eggs. The less water you use, the stronger the colours. If you add a lot of water, you get delicate pastel shades.
Acrylics
Acrylic provides brightly shining "coats of paint". The colours can be spread evenly, dry quickly and are ideal for children who have had their first experience with brushes and watercolours.
Making Easter decorations with children: Which pens can you use to paint eggs?
You can use Easter eggs with Felt pencils, fineliners, markers and crayons paint. Even the little ones can let off steam well with it. In cooked eggs are food pins that are used to decoration pies and pastries.
Which eggs should I use to paint? White or brown?
For painting are white and brown eggs suitable. On white eggs, the colors come better. Brown eggs become darker in the tone and, for example, yield a pretty orange tone in a nice bully from Kurkuma.

1. Make Preparations
Before you start, you need to decide whether you want to paint blown-out or boiled Easter eggs. Blown-out Easter eggs are perfect for decorating the house and garden. Boiled eggs can be used to decorate Easter nests and the Easter table. - The perfect table decoration at Easter.
Whether boiled or blown out: The little ones must be able to hold on to the Easter egg while it is being painted. Boiled eggs are best placed in an egg cup. Put blown-out eggs on skewers, fix them with modelling clay and put the skewers in egg cartons - making Easter decorations with children can be soooo beautiful and easy!
2. Easter eggs paint
Painting, brushing and dabbing Easter eggs - now it's time to get creative! Try the sponge technique. Dip a damp sponge in paint and carefully dab it on the egg. Or the spraying technique: simply dip the head of a toothbrush in paint, run your finger over the bristles and you've got a fun splattered Easter egg.
Alternatively, you can colour the eggs with your children and then jazz them up. The little ones dip their fingertips in colourful finger paints and happily dab dots on the Easter eggs. By the way, white dots look especially pretty on brown eggs.
Older children decorate the Easter eggs with acrylic paints, watercolours and pencils. Circles, lines and flowers look just as good on Easter eggs as bunny and chick faces. Or you can write Easter greetings together on the egg - black writing is a real eye-catcher on white eggs.

DIY: Crest eggs as a natural easter decoration with children
Finally, we have a nice one DIY Idea, which is ideal for the Easter decoration and as a present offering: Cress Easter eggs! You need:
- Eggs
- Cotton
- Cress
- Brushes, pens and colors of your choice
It's that easy to tinker the Easter decoration with the children
- Break the eggs in the upper third and collect the egg whites and yolks. You can use these to make delicious waffles later. Wash the eggshells thoroughly and carefully pat dry.
- Now the children can paint the Easter eggs to their hearts' content. How about chicks? Draw a yellow oval on the egg and add beak, eyes and feet with a black felt-tip pen. Cute, isn't it? Rabbit and chicken faces complete the animal round-up.
- Once the paint has dried, place the Easter eggs in egg cups and plant them. To do this, press the cotton wool lightly into the egg and sprinkle with cress. And now: Put them on the windowsill and keep the seeds constantly moist. After three to four days you can admire the cress Easter eggs in all their glory!
