Eggs paint for Easter

There are different theories, why we paint Easter eggs. It is clear that the egg is an ancient symbol of fertility and life. This symbolism has also made Christianity suited - the sloppiness chick is reminiscent of the resurrection of Jesus. And to highlight the significance, the eggs were colored red in the Middle Ages.

Another assumption goes back to the medieval Lent. Believing Christians abstained from meat and eggs at this time. To prevent the accumulated eggs from spoiling, they were boiled. And why coloured? Quite simply: to distinguish them from fresh eggs. On Easter Sunday, the eggs were eaten with relish and given away as gifts - and this colourful tradition has remained with us to this day.

Food and natural colors

The classic way to embellish Easter eggs is to colour them with food and natural dyes. Suitable natural materials include beetroot, elderberry, spinach and turmeric.
